On February 11, 2012 the Freedom’s Foundation at Valley forge Orange County Chapter presented the George Washington Honor Award Medal to Saddleback College Veterans Memorial at the Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo. The honorable Nancy Padberg gave the invocation and Francisca Kloa was the vocalist with Greg Smith on Piano. The Marine Air Logistics Squadron #39, Color Guard, Camp Pendelton presented the colors. Jim Van Schaack and Joyce Van Schaack visited Paris France in 1978. Jim Van Schaack and Joyce Van Schaack visited Paris France in 1978. Among other things they visited the Arc de Triomphe, the French was memorial. They visited the Eiffel Tower which was constructed for the 1889 Paris Exposition and Basilique de Sacre Coeur which was consecrated in 1918 after WW1. Construction began in 1975 and was completed in 1914. Catheral Notre Dome de Paris was constructed between 1163 and was largely completed by 1260. A Visit to Pompeii Italy in 1989

In 1989 Jim Van Schaack and Joyce Van Schaack visited the ancient Roman city of Pompeii in Italy. Mount Vesuvius erupted on August 24, 79AD. Pompeii was buried in volcanic ash for 2000 years. 1500 to 2000 people died due to the eruption. Excavation of Pompeii began in 1748 and continues today. You will see plaster casting of victims of the volcano and some homes that survived the eruption.
