In the summer of 1978 Jim and Joyce Van Schaack visited Holland, the land of windmills, flowers, diamonds, Rembrandt, Vincent Van Gogh and very industrious people. Much of the country is below sea level so water is pumped into canals, ponds or ditches so canals, ditches and ponds are everywhere.

Jim and Joyce enjoyed watching wooden shoes being made and enjoyed visiting Amsterdam where they saw a shop where diamonds are cut, polished and sold and they watched a diamond cutter at work. They learned about all the different types of diamonds and, of course, the tulips are just as beautiful.

They visited Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, where Rembrandt’s masterpieces are exhibited and the Vincent Van Gogh Museum.
